Indiana Based Government Cooperative Purchasing Program Wins National Contract

January 28, 2011 

Indianapolis - The Association of Indiana Counties (AIC) is proud to announce that an Indiana based government purchasing cooperative established more than 30 years ago has won a contract to provide office supplies to local government units nationwide. Independent Stationers has been providing savings to local governments since 1977 and the new contract with U.S. Communities Government Purchasing AllianceTM will strengthen that cooperative even more while providing greater benefits to the citizens of Indiana.

Indiana County Government is going on the offensive in anticipation of the possibility that the Indiana General Assembly might consider legislation to do away with many county elected offices. The Association of Indiana Counties (AIC) Executive Director David Bottorff says no state officials have endorsed such a plan, but it was a recommendation in the Shepard-Kernan report on local government modernization.

Organization Day - Tuesday November 17

As we enter Organization Day, property tax issues continue to dominate the legislature's agenda.  Three suggestions that sound great; tax caps, assessment caps and expanding the homestead to include luxury items, are great for a few taxpayers, but for the majority of property owners or local income tax payers they create an increased burden.
